The Indian team beat both Indonesia and Afghanistan 3-0 to reach the final where they beat Iran 1-0 to become the Asian Games winners in 1951.
Winless SC East Bengal face Chennaiyin FC in their quest to register three points in their tally for the first time in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21.
After SC East Bengal’s frantic entry into the ISL, the going has been tough for Robbie Fowler and his men. Having a mediocre Indian contingent made matters worse for the Englishman, a fact he did not hesitate to speak out. The foreigners failed to impress in the starting few matches too. The likes of Jacques Maghoma and Anthony Pilkington have shown glimpses of promise, though.
It took the team three matches to get their first point in the ISL when Jamshedpur FC played out a goalless draw. With another draw against the Kerala Blasters in the previous match, East Bengal stand last with a miserable total of two points. Rumours have also emerged, suggesting a drastic change in the squad during the January transfer window.
Chennaiyin FC started off their ISL Season 7 campaign with a win against Jamshedpur FC. However, the Marina Machans couldn’t build on it. A string of disappointing results followed, courtesy of some unwanted injuries.
This fixture comes at the right time for the former champions as they can extend the winning momentum against a hapless SC East Bengal.
This will be the first time these two sides meet each other.

SC Eastbengal 0-1 Chennaian FC
Simple words , How to win a football match?
This two basic things are the problem of SCEB.
Horrible defense, while defending with 6 numbers of players, crivelaro and changte was moving like they are running in practice. Scot navil is not at all playing well.
Rafique missed an easy and obvious chance. Maghoma also missed one half chance.
This is the 7th match already they had conceived 12 goals. Problem is there in the defense.
Unlike the previous match changte finishes today. Crivelaro was playing brilliantly. Tangri is playing confidently in defense.
More goals are coming.
A brace from Matti Steinmann helped SC East Bengal earn a 2-2 draw against Chennaiyin FC at Tilak Maidan.
No team came out the winner in this match. Chennaiyin certainly had better chances to win this game.
Agree. Because of their defense they are not winning matches. Until the defense improves there is very little hope.
Full time SCEB 2-2 CFC
Thanks to stainman for saving Eastbengal. Debjit actually had done few extraordinary saves to ensure the 1 point. Again SCEB defense line was completely off sync.
Bikas Jairu was delivering excellent balls. Introduction of this player actually had done the difference.
Again after the tackle against Maghoma , sipovic got a nip. He was struggling after that. Stainman actually capitalised that.
Good news is SCEB is scoring goals. Now complete focus should be given on defense. Man marking should be improved.
Yes!
That is indeed uplifting for the team! And most-awaited by fans!
An assist in the last game. A brace tonight! German Matti Steinmann is tonight’s Player of the Match!
Chennaiyin FC’s Jakub Sylvestr is the only player to have taken a minimum 15 shots in this season of Indian Super League & register just 1 goal. He has missed 5 big chances. Aridane Santana & Valskis have 4 & 6 goals respectively from 15 shots. Contrasting.
A hard-fought battle saw SC East Bengal and Chennaiyin FC each gain a point in tonight’s game. Lallianzuala Chhangte’s 1st goal of the season was cancelled out by Matti Steinmann in the 2nd half. After an array of chances for Csaba Laszlo’s men, Rahim Ali scored his 2nd goal in 2 games and gave his side the lead once again. Steinmann then notched up his 2nd of the night to level the scores and clinch a point for his side.
Happy Birthday Subrata Paul .

Kerala blasters will be looking to win their first game of the Indian Super League when they host Hyderabad FC at the Goa Medical College Ground in Bambolim, Goa.
The Blasters have made a disappointing start to the season as Kibu Vicuna is still struggling to implement his playing system. They lost three games and drew the remaining three out of their six games, and are placed 9th in the standings. They eked out a point in the 95th minute of their last match with SC East Bengal, as it ended in a 1-1 draw.
Hyderabad FC have performed diligently so far in the season. The Nizams have had several injury concerns and have been coerced to play their young players. Manolo Marquez’s men have won twice, drawn thrice, and lost their only game in their previous fixture with Mumbai City FC.
Hyderabad FC have scored out of goals in the second half!
