🇦🇺 India Tour Of Australia 2020- Full Schedule & Squad For Test, ODI & T20

BCCI released the full squad and schedule details for India’s first away tour after the coronavirus pandemic. With the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) in UAE, BCCI scouted some valuable emerging players who have been given a chance to be a part of the 28 man contingent.

After the conclusion of IPL, India will be touring Australia in a bio-secure bubble in November where they take part in four Test matches, three ODIs and three T20Is. The tour is likely to start with the ODIs on November 27 while the last of the four Tests will begin in Brisbane from January 15. Sydney and Canberra are likely to host the white-ball leg (T20 and ODIs) while Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney are the venues of the four-match Test series. The D/N Test match is scheduled in Adelaide.

Who Have Been Picked & Who Have Been Left Out from the squad?

The biggest headlines from the selection is, Indian vice-captain, Rohit Sharma has been dropped from all three formats of the game while K. L. Rahul makes a return to the Test team as the vice-captain after being dropped following the 2019 series in West Indies. Hardik Pandya, who hasn’t played for India since September 22 last year, has been picked for the ODIs and T20Is.

Besides 28 cricketers who will feature in the three squads combined, the selection committee has named pacers Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi, Ishan Porel and T. Natarajan who will travel as back-up. KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy who has shown good improvements with his game has been given his maiden ODI chace. He also became the only uncapped cricketer to have been selected across three squads.

This is just bad politics! :persevere:

Even though as per reports national team physio Nitin Patel had informed the selection committee — led by Sunil Joshi — that Rohit would need 2-3 weeks to get fit, the selectors decided to omit him from the team.

Rohit has already completed 10 of the 21 days that the medical team expects the limited-overs deputy to take to recover from the hamstring injury. Rohit suffered the injury on October 18 against KXIP, while taking a run in the Super Over.

He may play tonight against RCB.

After MI released a practice video, Sunil Gavaskar called for transparency. “We are talking about Tests which are a month-and-a-half way,” he told Star Sports. “If he is training for MI, then I don’t know what kind of injury it is. A little transparency about what actually is the problem will help everybody.”

The biggest disappointment for me is omission of Pant from ODI & T20. He seems to have serious distractors in Indian cricket system.

Last year he was bad mouthed as being reckless. He was put so much under pressure, the boy changed the whole natural style of playing which obviously not working for him. Now he is being labelled as failure. He is also an opening batsmen but being forced to play in middle order and as a finisher. And He may work as a finisher but he is forced to curb his natural instincts.

For me he is the best wicketkeeper batsmen today capable of changing game in all three formats of the game. He deserves a place even as a pure batsman. But he is being discouraged big time. I am not sure what is happening in Indian cricket!

Rohit Sharma not being selected is definitely stirring up lot of curiosity and anticipation among his fans as to why he may not be included in any of the formats. Is there more to the decision that what meets the eye!?

As per former India spinner Pragyan Ojha - “Kings XI Punjab’s Mayank Agarwal is also not fit and has missed the past two games, but has been included in the squads for all three formats.”

“You could have taken some time and announced the team little later if you are so confused about Rohit Sharma. But there is lot of confusion,” Ojha said.

“Rohit is not there in any team, Mayank Agarwal is there in all 3 sides despite being injured. And the other thing is that you have given the vice-captaincy to KL Rahul, when you do certain things there are consequences,” he added.

“Wouldn’t it be very confusion if Rohit Sharma makes it back in the team and again you will give him the vice-captaincy? It’s like you are creating a confusion which is not required,” Ojha said.

Hope to see Rohit Sharma clear the air himself soon, in the interest of fans.

Key Changes to India’s Squads for Australia Tour

  • India captain Virat Kohli was granted paternity leave by the BCCI after the first Test against Australia next month. Kohli will miss 3 Test matches in Australia to be with his wife Anushka Sharma as the couple welcomes their first child in early January.
  • Looks like things have been sorted out. A decision has been made to add Rohit Sharma to the red-ball Test squad after being initially left out due to a hamstring injury.
BCCI Medical Team: “In consultation with Mr Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.”

  • Ishant Sharma will be added to the Test squad subject to fitness. Ishant is currently in rehab at NCA, Bengaluru.

  • Spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who had allegedly hid his shoulder injury, has been ruled out of the T20I. T Natarajan got his maiden national team call-up and named replacement.

  • Sanju Samson, who was earlier only included in the T20 squad, has been added to the ODI line-up as an additional keeper.

  • Fast bowler Kamlesh Nagarkoti will not be able to travel to Australia as he is still working with the medical team on his bowling workload management.

  • Wriddhiman Saha has sustained injuries to both his hamstrings during his side’s IPL game on 3rd November. A call on his availability will be taken later.

A thoughtful gesture to honor the contributions of the indigenous culture in the country. The design beautifully depicts what the colors symbolize in the life and society of the aboriginal society.

The jersey is designed by Kirrae Whurrong woman Aunty Fiona Clarke & Butchulla and Gubbi Gubbi woman Courtney Hagen, the shirt continues the storytelling of the 1868 cricket team!

The stars in the jersey represented the ancestors of the aborigines and those that came before them. The green circles symbolize the strength between people and the continuation of their journey in life.

On the back, there is an emblem that states the thousands of years men have fought, educated and stood for the rights of the community. It has 11 signs which symbolize the 11 men around the campfire that represented the first indigenous cricket team of Australia in 1868. There is a band that shows the river and land and it acts as a connection with families to nature. The centre of the jersey has a big emblem that shows the past, present and future aboriginal cricketers.
