India’s Praveen Kumar Wins Silver In Men’s High Jump T64 Final
India’s Praveen Kumar clinched the silver medal in the men’s high jump T64 event, taking the country’s haul to 11 at the Tokyo Paralympics.
The 18-year-old Kumar, competing in his debut Paralympics, set a new Asian record with a 2.07m jump to finish behind Great Britain’s Jonathan Broom-Edwards, who notched up his season’s best of 2.10m for the gold. The bronze went to Rio Games champion Maciej Lepiato of Poland who produced an effort of 2.04m.

The BA (I) student Narwal shot a total of 218.2, a Paralympic record, to claim the yellow metal while Adana, who had won the bronze in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event on Tuesday, added a silver to his kitty with an effort of 216.7.

Suhas Yathiraj claims silver in badminton
The Indian Para-shuttler made History by winning the silver medal after he lost his Tokyo Paralympics 2020 Men’s Singles SL4 Final to France’s Lucas Mazur in a pulsating contest that lasted for three whole sets.
A computer engineer, Suhas went on to become an IAS officer and has been posted as a district magistrate of Noida since 2020, a role that saw him at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

With 19 medals, including 5 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze, this edition is India’s finest ever at the Paralympic Games.
India finished 24th in the overall medal tally, while its accomplishment of 19 medals is ranked 20th based on the number of total medals.
It was a record-breaking campaign for India at the Paralympics with 19 MEDALS. India had won 4 medals in Rio.
Since making its first appearance at the Paralympics in 1968, India had won 12 medals in total till the 2016 Rio edition. It has now drastically improved upon that entire number by 7 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 alone.
So this brings curtains down on India’s memorable campaign at the Tokyo Paralympics.
