🇮🇳 ISL 2020/21 Season-MatchDay 8- Previews, Reviews, Match Results, Discussions - FC Goa, ATK Mohun Bagan & More

Interesting!! Wondering if other technical stats are going in their favor to place them on the top, just one notch down the Mumbai City FC due to lower goal difference.

Game of football is not always about stats. If you see today’s stats for example it may look like BFC was as good as ATKMB, but the story was far different.

Actually if a team plays direct counter attacking football that involves long passes so maintaining the accuracy is difficult but those are real effective.

But if you keep possession with back and square small passes the accuracy will be much higher but those are not that effective.

This accuracy stat is not showing the quality of football, rather it’s showing the strategy of the football.

If you remember the last season the stats were similar and ATK was champion.

Bengaluru FC registered their first loss in this season of the Indian Super League, only during their debut season in the ISL did they suffer defeats (3) in the first seven matches. They were completely outdone! :expressionless:

The Fatorda stadium saw another classic matchup between two defensive powerhouses - ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC. After a cagey opening 30 minutes, David Williams struck home his first of the season and a fantastic one at that to seal all three points for Antonio Lopez Habas’ side. The result also marked the end of Bengaluru FC’s unbeaten start to the Hero ISL 2020-21 season.

Match Preview: Odisha FC vs NorthEast United FC

Odisha FC are set to take on NorthEast United FC in the eighth-match week of the Indian Super League 2020-21. The match will be held at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa.

Odisha Head coach, Stuart Baxter will hope for a resurgence from his side after their shaky start to the ISL 2020-21 season. The Kalinga Warriors have lost five matches and drawn one so far.

The lone point was earned against Jamshedpur FC when a brace from Diego Mauricio rescued them. Since then, Odisha FC have lost four on the trot against ATK Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City FC, FC Goa and Bengaluru FC.

Odisha have suffered in all departments across the pitch, with both defence and attack struggling to get going. They have scored just three goals and conceded nine so far. Baxter’s team is now up against a NorthEast United FC side that has a stubborn defence.

Northeast United have got off to a strong start in their ISL 2020-21 campaign. After starting with a win over current league leaders Mumbai City FC, they carried on their unbeaten run through six matches.

The Highlanders faced their first defeat of the ISL season in their last fixture against Jamshedpur FC. They will aim to overcome the minor bump in the road and bounce back against a struggling Odisha FC side.

OFC 1 - 1 NEUFC (45:00 min)

End to end staff that’s all I can say. Defensively both the team was not so good not so bad. Lambort was brilliant to score the equalizer.

How ever Mauricio scored a stunner. But for this goal i must say man marking was loose.

Interesting fact is ashutosh was not that much defensive in this match, resulting an assist for the equalizer.

Starting with Machado was a good decision.Galego was phenomenal in the first half.

For OFC shubham is playing well but one problem is he is holding the ball more. Jerry was brilliant with his off the ball run.

Mauricio was good with the goal but he needs to play carefully. The way he is challenging he needs to remember that he is on a yellow card.

Prediction NEUFC win. But they need to be precise in front of the goal.

An eventful first half. Odisha took the lead through Mauricio who was later subbed out for an injury.

The Highlanders finished the half strongly and restored parity through Lambot. All to play for in the second half

Final Score line OFC 2-2 NEUFC

Northeast was playing well making chances, then all of a sudden the manager took galego off for sylla, Really in what sense? That’s the reason they get a draw in this match as simple as that.

Sylla came and started missing chances.

Camara was introduced correctly, could have been earlier. Apuiah the 19 years old lad played very well throughout the match. Introduction of Ninthoi also was a good move.

Talking about OFC, good goal from alexander, nice assist by jerry. But Lambort allowed that shot, if he closed him a bit scoring may not happen that easily.

Jerry was moving so fast along side the attackers that the gap with the mid field was huge. So they were unable to win the 2nd balls , that is why chances are less. When ever you play with 4-3-3 formation, mid field need to move faster and more. Hope they will cover this up.

OFC vs NEUFC stats

Let’s compare the stats of first half and second half.

NEUFC made one critical destructive change

Galego out Sylla in

What happened.

  1. Possession dropped 60% to 56%.
  2. Passing accuracy dropped 80% to 78%.
  3. 8 fouls were made in first 45 and 11 fouls in 2nd half this is because of pressure in defense.
  4. In first half shots on target was 4 in second half just 2 more was added, remember one of them was a penalty.
  5. OFC took 3 shots on target in 2nd half while they just took one in the first half.

Some decision ruin the game. No doubt Galego’s frustration is justified.

The GMC Stadium in Bambolim witnessed a cracker of a game tonight! What started off as a highly physical game progressed into one full of chances. Diego Mauricio’s stunner from outside the box gave Odisha FC the lead before Benjamin Lambot’s header tied the game up ahead of the half-time whistle. More magic followed in the 2nd half as Kwesi Appiah gave NorthEast United FC the lead from the spot before Cole Alexander’s curler levelled up the scores once again.
