SC East Bengal 1-2 NorthEast United FC

SC East Bengal attempt a very late comeback but it was not to be as NorthEast United FC hold on for a 2-1 win to go back in Top 4. Sarthak Golui, who scored an own goal and then SCEB’s only goal, is devastated and leaves the field of play immediately. After a fairly dull first half, Suhair VP gave NorthEast United FC the lead following which Sarthak scored the unfortunate own goal after Nim Dorjee’s regular cross from the right. Sarthak headed in SCEB’s only goal but couldn’t help for a comeback.

Full-time Stats
Equal game in terms of possession but NorthEast United FC dominated in terms of the chances. SC East Bengal also had three shot on target but none too threatening and NorthEast United emerged victorious 2-1.

SC East Bengal’s Jeje Lalpekhlua After the Match

"I think we really fought hard but this season we are not doing well. We have one more game to go and we need to have a good practice session and hopefully have a good last game.

“Many games, we had chances and we didn’t convert. This is football. This season, many games we deserved a lot of wins, we lost and drew, and this season has not gone well for us.”

"Very happy to get the three points. We are playing next against Kerala Blasters, they are a good side and we are thinking about that.

"All the credit goes to the players. They are working very hard, practicing really hard.

“We were thinking only about getting the three points because that was very important. We were not thinking about the goal difference.”

That’s a great record! A little more fine-tuning to convert the draws into wins will land the club as a strong competitor for Mumbai and ATK Mohun Bagan.

I think the club will likely confirm him as a coach for next season.
