14 of India’s first 15 overs here were delivered from round the wicket - in the last decade, only three Test innings have seen more bowling from that angle, at this point in the innings. Two left-handers, and bowlers willing to change angle.
After an average outing on Day 2, New Zealand pacers bounced back in style to bundle out India for 217 on the third day of the WTC Final.
New Zealand lose their openers in the final session as they go to stumps on 101/2, trailing India by 116 runs.
Devon Conway’s wicket will help India breathe a little easy, but it has been New Zealand’s day. Kyle Jamieson first, and then the batsmen. India need a big effort from their bowlers today, weather permitting.
WTC Final: Rain eases in Southampton after first session washout
Rain has once again delayed play in Southampton, England, on the fourth day of the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand
The Kiwis are 116 runs behind the 217 India made in the first innings at The Ageas Bowl stadium on Sunday.
Poor light forced early closes on both Days 2 and 3.
A majority of Test matches since 2018 have yielded an outright winner within 320 overs or three and a half days of total play and with a better forecast in weather for the next couple of days in Southampton, we might witness a thriller and well see Virat Kohli or Kane Williamson lay their hands on the coveted trophy.
Out of the two, the Kiwis have a more realistic chance of winning this. They trail by just over hundred. So if they manage to score quickly here, take a lead of around 200, then they could give themselves a chance of bowling India out on Day 6.
India on the other hand, need the New Zealand side to collapse. Hope for a lead around 50, bat themselves to a position where they can’t lose and then try and bowl the Kiwis out on Wednesday. Now being an optimist, we still feel a result is possible, especially in such conditions where a collapse is always around the corner.
Congratulations New Zealand!! The ICC World Test Champions!

Well deserved win
Great effort from Team India throughout the tournament.
