Just when we thought Chelsea football club would put behind their last season woes and challenge properly for the Premier league title given the crazy amount spent on transfers last summer, the reverse has been the case so far this season with Chelsea recording their worst ever start to a premier league season in over 30 years.
What is really happening at Chelsea football club? Why are struggling for the second year in the running?
In my opinion, the main reason for Chelsea’s struggle is because of the amount of inexperienced and unproven players in the squad. Chelsea did a squad overhaul and sold most of their experienced players and replaced them with youngsters with little or no experience. It’s costing the club dearly and something is needed to be done quickly. Up to Pochetino to make things right because the fans are gradually loosing their patience.
One league win this season Only two wins since Potter was fired Zero goals in last three games Failed to score in 13 league games in 2023 Malo Gusto three-game ban Nico Jackson one-match ban after five yellows in five games
Chelsea is struggling again this season due to a combination of factors:
Lack of a proven goalscorer: Chelsea has struggled to score goals this season, with no player consistently finding the back of the net.
Chelsea has failed to score in 13 Premier League matches in 2023, more than any other side, and have just nine wins in their past 38 league games.
Struggles in front of goal: Chelsea has had 241 touches in the opposition box, which is the second-lowest in the Premier League.
Over-reliance on defensive players: Chelsea’s squad is heavily weighted towards defensive players, which has led to a lack of creativity and attacking threat.
Defensive issues: Chelsea has conceded 10 goals in their first six Premier League games this season, which is the joint-worst record in the league
Lack of experience in attack: Chelsea’s attacking players are relatively young and inexperienced, which has led to inconsistency and a lack of composure in front of goal.
Poor start under new manager: Chelsea has a new manager in Mauricio Pochettino trying to implement his ideas. The team has struggled to adapt to his tactics and style of play.
Dissatisfaction among players: There have been reports of dissatisfaction among some Chelsea players, with midfielder Enzo Fernandez reportedly considering leaving the club due to his unhappiness.
