In my personal opinion, Michael Carrick is the most disrespected player in Premier League history.
Carrick was the heartbeat of Manchester United’s midfield for over a decade, yet he never got the recognition he truly deserved. While players like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and even Roy Keane received legendary status, Carrick quietly dictated games with his intelligence, passing range, and composure. Sir Alex Ferguson himself admitted that replacing him was one of the hardest tasks after his retirement.
Despite winning five Premier League titles and a Champions League, he was often overlooked in discussions about the best midfielders in the league. England also underappreciated him, as he was constantly snubbed for the national team in favor of more physical midfielders like Gerrard and Lampard.
Carrick was never flashy, but his importance to United’s dominance cannot be overstated. He was a world-class deep-lying playmaker who never got the respect he deserved.

Jurgen Klopp has an abundance of talent at his disposal and the German manager has been incredible at getting the best out of his players over his eight-year reign at Liverpool. This makes it difficult to pick out an underrated player in the Reds’ squad, but Joe Gomez certainly falls into that category.
