Who flourished and who fell flat in the winter window?
Manchester City are the winners of the January transfer window in my opinion. They strengthened in areas where they’ve been struggling for most part of the season, the signature of Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez takes them a lever higher and I expect them to finish the season strongly.
I would say Aston villa, though its all a loan deal, but I think they flourished and they will perform better.
Here’s a breakdown of winners and losers:
Winners:
Aston Villa: They were among the busiest clubs in Europe, resolving profit and sustainability issues by selling Jhon Durán to Al Nassr for a substantial fee. They also brought in Marcus Rashford (loan), Donyell Malen, and Marco Asensio (loan).
Marcus Rashford: Rashford secured a loan move to Aston Villa, offering him a change of scenery to revive his form.
Unai Emery: As the manager of Aston Villa, Emery oversaw the impressive transfer deals, boosting the club’s Champions League journey.
Manchester City: They were the biggest spenders, addressing squad issues with significant investment. Key acquisitions included Nico González (£50M) , Abdukodir Khusanov (£33.6M), Vitor Reis (£29.6M) , and Omar Marmoush (£59M).
PSG: PSG acquired Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and made a profit on Xavi Simons’ transfer.
Losers:
Manchester United: Despite new ownership, they are in 13th place in the league and struggling with scoring goals. They signed Patrick Dorgu but failed to address the need for reinforcements in attack. They also loaned out Rashford.
Arsenal: With injuries to key players like Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka, Arsenal needed a striker but failed to make a major signing, potentially impacting their title race.
Dusan Vlahovic: Despite being Juventus’ top scorer, he has often started on the bench and didn’t attract interest from top European teams during the transfer window.
