Men's Asian Wrestling Championships 2020

Sunil Kumar clinches gold medal in 87 Kg Greco-Roman category. It ends India’s 27-year wait for a Gold in Greeco-Roman style. The last time India won a gold medal in Greco-Roman was 27 years ago in 1993, when Pappu Yadav had become the first Indian to win gold in the 48 kg category.

Arjun Halakurki had to be content with Bronze in the Men’s 55 kg Greco-Roman event. Ashu was the sole representative for India in the Men’s Greco-Roman 67 kg event and clinched Bronze. Aditya Kundu too got Bronze in the Men’s Greco-Roman 72 kg. Hardeep got Bronze in the Men’s Greco-Roman 97 kg

Sachin Rana (63 Kg) and Sajan Bhanwal (77 Kg) Gyanender (60 Kg) Harpreet Singh (82 kg) faced disappointment and couldn’t perform and secure a medal. Mehar Singh (130 kg) was the contender for India in the heaviest category in the Men’s Greco-Roman wrestling event but lost Bronze medal match.

Bajrang Punia won silver after losing his gold medal bout to Japan’s Takuto Otoguro, going down 10-2 in the 65kg category.

Ravi Kumar won his first Asian Championships gold medal after beating Tajikistan’s Hikmatullo Vohidov 10-0 in the final in the 57kg category.

Another Indian wrestler Gourav Baliyan won a silver medal in his Asian Championships debut bout in the 79kg final.

Satyawart Kadiyan also had to settle for silver as he lost 10-0 to Mojtaba Mohammadshafie Goleij of Iran in the 97kg final.

India’s Jitender Kumar was the prime contender for the gold medal in Men’s 74 kg event but eventually he had to settle for Silver.

India’s Rahul Aware won Bronze in the Men’s 61 kg Freestyle wrestling. Deepak Punia also had to be content with Bronze in 86 kg freestyle event.
