Yes in my opinion we can repeat this as India have gotten hold of how to play against Australia. Now just if India’s middle order do well they can win the ODI series.

Australia win the 2nd ODI by 51 runs and take the series!

India were outplayed and outclassed while chasing 390 against Australia in the 2nd ODI.

In the first innings, it was another run-fest in Sydney for the home team, with 5 of their batsmen reaching 50s. David Warner (83) and Aaron Finch (60) got another 100+ partnership before Steve Smith (104) took charge. Smith scored his 2nd consecutive 100, again off exactly 62 balls, to set up a platform for an explosive finish. Glen Maxwell (63*) and Marnus Labuschagne (70) made sure to provide impetus in the death overs. All the bowlers except Ravindra Jadeja (0/60) and Hardik Pandya (1/24) went for over-6 economy rates.

Virat Kohli (89 off 87) and KL Rahul (76 off 66) kept India in the hunt in a huge chase, but Australia proved to be the better side and sealed the series with a game to spare. A total of 727 runs scored in the match, a record for any ODI played in Australia.

Gautam Gambhir not happy with Virat Kohli’s handling of Jasprit Bumrah

“I can’t understand the captaincy to be honest. We kept talking about how important is to take wickets upfront if we have to stop this kind of batting line-up and then you make your premier bowler bowl two overs. Normally, in a One Day game probably there are three spells of 4-3-3 overs. Or probably the maximum is four overs,” Gambhir said on ESPNCricinfo’s post-match show.

“But if you stop your premier fast bowler just by bowling two overs upfront with the news, I can’t understand that kind of captaincy. I probably can’t even explain that captaincy. It is not T20 cricket. I probably can’t understand the reason to be honest because that was poor captaincy.”

Warner ruled out of the remaining white-ball matches against India after injuring his groin in the second ODI. D’Arcy Short has been named his replacement in the T20I series that follows.

Warner looked in sublime form with the bat as he started the ODI series against India in strong form, scoring 69 and 83, helping Australia win the first two matches. Warner’s opening partnerships with Aaron Finch have troubled the Indian bowler and Rahul joked that the Indian team would be happy if Warner misses more matches on this tour.

KL Rahul’s remark about David Warner’s injury has invited sharp criticism on social media with fans pointing out the issue with the choice of words. Fans called the India vice-captain as ’despicable’, who lacks ‘the spirit of sportsmanship.’

Meanwhile Pat Cummins rested for the remaining limited-overs matches.

Also allrounder Mitchell Marsh will not join the Australia A squad for the matches against India as he continues his recovery from the ankle injury sustained at the IPL.

India have also left out Mayank Agarwal, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami being rested. Apart from debutant Natarajan, young Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav get the nod for this game. Navdeep Saini has been replaced by Shardul Thakur.
