Former England and Chelsea superstar Frank Lampard is in talks to return to Stamford Bridge- but this time as a Manager. He is reported to take over as the new manager after Maurizio Sarri earlier left to join Juventus. Lampard has been a legendary midfielder for the Blues but is inexperienced as a manager. The former Chelsea FC midfielder has only one season of managerial experience under his belt with Derby County and with Chelsea facing a transfer ban and their top scorer Hazard departing it will be a difficult challenge for him. They also finished 3rd in this season and that will see them competing in the Champions league.
It is going to be a tough call for both Lampard and Chelsea but if it does happen it will be the proudest day of his life. Should Chelsea take a chance?
Why not? Frank Lampard had a successful stint at Derby as he guided Derby to the Championship play off final. Chelsea may be forced into using more of their younger players next season as they won’t be able to sign anyone for the next 12 months due to the transfer ban. Lampard seems to be a fit in this situation as he has worked with a number of younger players last season at Derby and he is expected to promote the young players at Chelsea. I think it is a low risk strategy for Chelsea. In one year’s time they can always reassess and it won’t be difficult for Abramovich to have the manager fired.
For Lampard, it will be homecoming, who scored a record 211 goals in 649 appearances over 13 years for Chelsea. And now coming in as a Manager will be a dream come true for him. I see this spirit beneficial for the Club & a great opportunity for Lampard to rank himself among the top coach in PL.
As per latest updates, the deal seems to be done. We may hear an announcement sooner rather than later.
Petr Cech is already in place as sporting director, meaning the Blues could have a legendary line-up of ex-players in charge of all footballing elements at Stamford Bridge.
Super Frankie Lampard, greatest midfielder, Chelsea & England Legend! Over his 21 years professional football career he had 3 PL titles, 4 FA Cup, 2 League Cup, Champions League and Europa League.
He’s home! Chelsea have today announced Frank Lampards’ appointment as their manager on a three year deal. Chelsea paid the £4 million required to release him from his contract with Derby County.
Lampard is the 10th manager appointed by Roman Abramovich since he bought the club in 2003. It will be interesting to see how long Lampard can last and shine at Chelsea.
Lampard has officially been announced as Chelsea manager but I think going with Max Allegri who recently became a free agent after parting with Juventus would have been a safer bet.
Lampard is still in his nascent days as a football manager and taking over Chelsea in the Premier League warrants considerable pressure and experience that he might not be acclimatised for and could easily crumble.
