‘The Gunners’ will be proud of not ending their season trophyless after a tragic Premier League season. Years have passed since Arsenal made it to the European championships and the moral has been down for a long time. But, yesterday’s FA Cup win over Chelsea can mark a new beginning for the supporters with a trophy-winning high.
Their Talismen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was their hero. Another match-winning double to follow up shows how important he is for the current side but Mikel Arteta himself deserves most of the credit. This season has been Arsenal’s lowest finish in a quarter of a century but since Arteta took over in December the scope for improvement has been observed in their gameplay. Winning the FA Cup should help towards the future of Arsenal and couple of good transfers in the coming season can bring back the lost glory to a renowned club.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang double seals FA Cup triumph as Gunners gain UEFA Europa league spot.Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea and win the FA cup for a record 14th time.
It was just not Chelsea’s day, after taking the lead with Christian Pulisic’s stunner under 5 mins, the Blues just lost after Azpilicueta hobbled off injured in tears before halftime and Pulisic only lasted a minute after the break before also pulling up with an apparent hamstring injury. Mateo Kovacic received a second yellow card in the 73rd min and Chelsea finished with nine men in stoppage time when Pedro was forced off with a shoulder injury. This sealed Arsenal’s fourth FA Cup in seven seasons but most importantly a place in the Europa League, having only finished eighth in the Premier League.
Here is how a disappointed Frank Lampard assessed his side’s performance at Wembley…
“We started well for 10 or 15 minutes, scored a goal and created a few chances and were in control of the game. But after that, we can only blame ourselves from that point in football terms.
“We got complacent. We took too long on the ball, we started playing short passes like it was a stroll. An FA Cup Final can never be a stroll. We allowed Arsenal back in the game and from that point onwards, it’s always going to be difficult.
A satisfactory start for Mikel Arteta as manager of Arsenal. After assisting Pep Guardiola at Man City for more than 3 years he joined Arsenal on Dec 2019 as head coach. In his first season he won FA cup. Lets see if Arsenal can lift more trophies under him or not.
