We’re back from an international break and it is about to get very busy for the Premier League’s big boys with continental action kicking off today.
There’s no direct matches between the big six (or is it seven now), but there are some fascinating matchups, including Manchester United and Brighton, plus West Ham hosting Manchester City.
We’re all set for a big weekend of football so feel free to join the discussion and share your thoughts on the various matches.
Manchester United have lost their last three league games against Brighton & Hove Albion, including last season’s corresponding fixture, which was Erik ten Hag’s first match in charge. The Red Devils have scored just once in their four previous clashes with Brighton in all competitions, an own goal by Alexis Mac Allister in this fixture last year.
Manchester United have gone 31 games – spanning more than a year – without defeat at Old Trafford, winning 27 and drawing four in all competitions. The Red Devils are seeking their ninth consecutive league win at Old Trafford, which will be their longest run since a 12-match streak in 2012/13.
Brighton & Hove Albion are seeking successive Premier League away wins for the first time since a run of three between November and January last season.
Brighton can equal a club record of scoring in 16 successive away league matches, first set in League One between August 2009 and February 2010.
Bruno Fernandes has scored four and set up two of the last eight goals scored by Manchester United against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Pascal Gross has scored six Premier League goals against Manchester United, including both in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford last season
The Opta supercomputer predicts Manchester City will make it five wins from five Premier League games, assigning them a 59.5% chance of victory over West Ham.
West Ham have failed to win any of their last 15 Premier League games against Man City. Only against Manchester United (16 between 1993 and 2001) have they endured a longer winless run in the competition.
Erling Haaland’s record over the first four games of the Premier League season mirrors that from his first four outings of 2022-23. He scored a hat-trick on Matchday 5 last term.
