Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

Chelsea are riding on a high of success under Thomas Tuchel. After having pulled off a stunning UEFA Champions League triumph last season, the Blues kicked off the new campaign by lifting yet another trophy, beating Villarreal on penalty shootouts to lift the UEFA Super Cup earlier this week.

With confidence sky high and the squad further bolstered by the marquee addition of former hitman Romelu Lukaku in a club-record deal, the west London giants will be aiming to bag all three points in their opening game of the Premier League season and send out a warning to their title rivals.

Crystal Palace, a new era is on the horizon as Roy Hodgson has left the club after four years of top-notch service, to be replaced by Patrick Vieira at the helm of affairs. The former Arsenal captain will be intent on improving the Eagles’ position on the table after they finished the previous campaign in 14th place.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Team News

Hakim Ziyech will definitely miss Chelsea’s opening game of the campaign, having suffered a shoulder injury during the Super Cup game with Villarreal. Jorginho, Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen all came off the bench against Villarreal on Wednesday night, so they all will be part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

The likes of Eberechi Eze, Nathan Ferguson, and summer signing Michael Olise will not be available to Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira this weekend, with all three young guns nursing injuries. Conor Gallagher is on loan from Chelsea, so he’ll not be eligible to face his parent club.

Bruno Fernandes dominating

Despite the weakened XI, United started Saturday’s tie on the front foot, with Scott McTominay – like he did in the 6-2 win over Leeds last year – making runs from deep to cause Leeds’ defence issues.

A sloppy back-pass from Raphinha then led to a Mason Greenwood chip forcing a good save from Illan Meslier after 10 minutes.

Just moments later, Greenwood slipped in Paul Pogba who really should have done better with his effort, sending his shot wide when one on one with Meslier.

Then, as per Opta, since his debut, Fernandes has been directly involved in 46 Premier League goals (27 goals, 19 assists), two more than any other player (not just midfielder) in this time:
