2020 French Open - Sep 21 to Oct 11: Open Discussion, News and Daily Updates

I usually tend to root the underdogs to go all the way. But this time, realistically speaking, I feel the underdogs may lack the experience and the psychological mindset to topple the maestros of tennis.

Schwartzman has had an amazing run so far defeating US Open Champion Dominic Thiem in the quarter finals. But, I would doubt his preparedness to face the King of Clay today. I do however see him give a tough fight.

In the other semi-finals, I see Djokovic take it in straight sets against Tsitipas.

Djokovic Into Roland Garros Final

Djokovic & Tsitsipas played out a thriller today! It was a 5 set match where Tsitsipas left no stone unturned to keep Djokovic fight hard to advance to the finals.

In just over four hours, Djokovic survives Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-2 5-7 4-6 6-1 to earn the right to play for a second title at French Open.

Spirited Tsitsipas displayed some great tennis in 3rd & 4th set when he saved match point to steal third set from Djokovic.

Tennis matches are decided at the end but often, determined at the beginning. Today was no exception to it!

In Sunday’s finals, Djokovic, the 2016 champion in Paris and chasing an 18th Grand Slam title, will face Nadal who is in pursuit of his 13th FO title.

Rafa Born to reign Clay court!

Rafael Nadal conquers Novak Djokovic 6-0 6-2 7-5 to remain perfect in Paris finals and earn title 13 at French Open.

Nadal scripted history by winning a record-extending 13th French Open title. This was also his 20th Grand Slam trophy, equalling Roger Federer’s record for most Major titles.

This is the first 6-0 opening set in a Roland Garros final since 2004 when Gaston Gaudio defeated countryman Guillermo Coria 0-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 8-6.

Today was very unlike Djokovic’s usual game. Haven’t seen him give in straight sets and that too so easily. Wonder what went wrong today!?

It’s amazing the most prolific three belong to the same era!

But, somehow it doesn’t excite fans as rivalry of Becker, Edberg. Lendel & Willander or Mcneroe, Borg, Connors rivalry. Agassi, Courier & Sampras rivalry was also Interesting.

The current competition is lopsided with Nadal being one dimensional and monopolizing French, Federer mostly dominating in Wimbledon and Djoker winning French only once.
