We are right at the midway point of the Last 16 stage of UEFA Euro 2020, with just four more spots remaining to be sealed until each of the quarter-final fixtures are set in stone. On Monday, the first game on show will be played at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, where Croatia will take on Spain.

Croatia vs Spain

Croatia had to take the scenic route to make it to the UEFA Euro 2020 Round of 16, having raked in just one point after their first two games. However, a 3-1 win over Scotland coupled with England’s 1-0 success against Czech Republic meant the Vatreniclinched second spot in Group D behind the Three Lions.

Spain, like Croatia, were up against it after their opening two fixtures in the group stage. With each of those games ending in a stalemate, La Roja needed all three points to guarantee their place in the Round of 16. And Luis Enrique’s charges did exactly that, with a 5-0 rout of Slovakia confirming their spot at Group E runners-up.

Croatia were 3-2 victors the last time they locked horns with Spain, in a pulsating UEFA Nations League clash in 2018.

Croatia vs Spain Team News

Borna Barisic remains the only injury concern for Croatia and his knock might rule him out of this match. Ivan Perisic has tested positive for the coronavirus this week and will be excluded from the squad.

Luis Enrique has a few decisions to make with the likes of Ferran Torres, Alvaro Morata, Gerard Moreno, Pablo Sarabia, and Dani Olmo competing for places in the forward line. Sergio Busquets was impressive against Slovakia and is likely to start ahead of Rodri for Spain.

Spain, in contrast, have not been on the wrong end of the result in any of their last 11 matches across all competitions (W5 D6).

This is Spain’s fourth game at Parken Stadium, where their record is W1 D1 L1, all against Denmark. Spain’s record in Copenhagen overall is W2 D2 L1; their only other visit to Denmark was a 3-1 success in Aarhus in UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying.

France vs Switzerland

France came into the tournament as one of the favourites to go all the way. And the hard-fought 1-0 win over Germany in the Group F opener sounded out their intentions. But Les Bleus haven’t quite hit top gear since and were held to back-to-back draws by Hungary (1-1) and Portugal (2-2), although they ended up topping the Group of Death to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Switzerland, meanwhile, were off to an underwhelming start in Group A, playing a 1-1 draw with Wales before they were handsomely beaten by Italy 3-0, leaving them with all to do in their final game against Turkey. And, Vladimir Petkovic’s men rose to the occasion, winning 3-1 to finish third and earn a place in the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams.

This will be the first meeting in five years between France and Switzerland, with their last encounter – a group game in the UEFA Euro 2016 ending in a goalless draw.
