WOW!! These 2 matches by far have been the most thrilling Euro 2020 matches so far!
Switzerland coach Vladimir Petković’s Pre-Game Press statement caught my attention earlier and I loved the conviction with which the Coach believed in his work and his team’s abilities.
France being the favorites, this statement could have seemed as wishful and optimistic against odds to many. However, the team got to believe in their dream to make it possible.
Kudos to Swiss team for believing in themselves and challenging the odds stacked against them! Good luck for the Quarter-Finals!

England vs Germany
Sweeden vs Ukraine
Just two more quarter-final spots to decide.
England reached the UEFA Euro 2020 Round of 16 on the back of finishing as Group D toppers, having been one of just seven teams to end the group stage unbeaten. Better yet, the Three Lions are the only team yet to concede a goal at the tournament. However, Gareth Southgate & co. have appeared to be very laboured in the attacking phases, managing just two goals across three games so far.
Germany, on the other hand, were drawn in the group of death and it is hardly surprising that they endured a roller-coaster of a ride into the Last 16 stage. Die Mannschaft, though, battled hard after losing their first game to France, beating Portugal in quite a handy fashion before a 2-2 draw with Hungary meant they finished runners-up in Group F to set up a Round of 16 date with England.
England and Germany have one of the more storied rivalries in international football in Europe, but their most recent match-up ended in a goalless draw back in 2017 in a friendly.
Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will face late fitness tests as they come out of COVID-19 isolation on the day of the game, while Southgate could switch from a back four to a back three for this clash.
Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller all played against Hungary after overcoming minor injuries, leaving Jonas Hoffman and Lukas Klostermann as the only doubts here.
England and Germany have played out just four draws in 32 previous meetings, with Die Mannschaft having the slightest of upper hands in the head-to-head record with 15 wins (L13).
Germany are unbeaten in their last seven games against England at Wembley (W5 D2); they have not lost there since a 2-0 defeat in a friendly way back in 1975. Their last competitive loss at the stadium was the 1966 World Cup final.
England are unbeaten in nine games across all competitions dating back to November 2020 (W8 D1). Eight of these fixtures have seen the Three Lions keep a clean sheet.
Germany, on the other hand, have managed to win just four of the eight games they have played this year (D2 L2), managing just a couple of clean sheets.
England have never lost in the finals of a major tournament at Wembley (W9 D4), with the 1996 semi-final against Germany classed as a draw.
The Swedes topped Group E with seven points on the board. They had started their campaign with a hard-fought draw with Spain before securing back-to-back wins over Slovakia and Poland.
The stark contrast between their approach over the game against Spain and the last two group games was remarkable, to say at the least. Fortunately for Janne Andersson’s men, a contest against Ukraine means they won’t have to change their approach too much, knowing they will be given the opportunity to play an attacking game.
In fact, no other side has faced as many shots on target as Ukraine in the competition so far. And despite securing just three points in Group C, Andriy Shevchenko’s men were lucky enough to sneak through to the knockout rounds as one of the four best third-placed teams.
Sweden received a major boost when Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg were cleared after they had initially tested positive for the coronavirus which means coach Janne Andersson has a larger pool of players to pick his XI for the game. Ukraine’s major injury concern revolves around Viktor Tsyhankov and Oleksandr Zubkov as both are expected to be out due to calf injuries.
This Tuesday’s match will undoubtedly be another classic to add to this ongoing rivalry between the two nations and, with the two teams studded with stars, it promises to be an even match.

Coach Joachim Löw’s
Having narrowly avoided disaster against Hungary, this is Joachim Löw’s initial outlook on Tuesday’s game: “It’s going to be a completely different type of match against England and we should benefit from it. England are playing at home and they will have to show some attacking football as well. The match will be more open than against Hungary, but we must absolutely be on our toes.”
Harry Kane in the press conference on his lack of goals :
"I’ve always said as a striker you go through spells – good spells and sometime spells that just don’t quite go your way. The most important thing for me is that we’re winning games.
Coach Southgate on German football:
“One of the things we did after the World Cup in Brazil, we did a big study on Germany and their development football, their youth football. They’ve got an incredible football history really.”
“Although I keep reading lots of negative comments about them, I see a team that’s well-prepared, tactically know what they are doing, that work together, so we know it’s a really, really tough game for us.”
