UEFA Champions League 2020 Open Discussion

Today night these two teams will be facing each other in the second semifinals of the UEFA Champions League!

Lyon has certainly suprised not only me but the the whole football audience by defeating Man city and Juventus to reach the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Champions League. They are a rather offensive team with 403 attacks with 339 of them deliverd in the attacking third. Their defence is also pretty good with 451 balls recovered and over 155 clearances.

The German champions have been favourites from the start, however no one expected them to be in such good form. They have been annihilating any team that faces them like they won 8-2 against Barca. They have won all 9 games in the UCL this season and have scored 39 goals in total with top scorer Robert Lewandowski who has scored 14 goals (top scorer of UCL). They have a passing accuracy of 88% and have 61% possession on average in each game.

This is going to be a very intense match because both the teams have exceeded our expectations and knocked out all the big teams.

German giants beat Lyon 3-0! Will Face P.S.G. in Champions League Final.

Lewandowski 2 Goals Away from Ronaldo’s Champions League Record

  • Lewandowski scored his 15th Champions League goal of the season to round of Bayern’s win against Lyon. He is just 2 goals away from Cristiano Ronaldo’s single-season record that he achieved in the 2013-14 season.

  • Lewandowski has scored in 9 successive Champions League games and only Cristiano Ronaldo, with 11 to his name, is ahead of him.

Here are all the statistics from the match:

  • Bayern Munich have recorded 10 straight Champions League, equalling the competition’s record. They are also the first team to win their first 10 matches of a Champions League campaign.

  • Bayern Munich, with 40 goals this season, are only behind Real Madrid (41, 2013-14), Liverpool (41, 2013-14) and Barcelona (45 - 1999-00). They have the Barcelona record in sight.

  • Bayern Munich have made it to their 11th European Cup or Champions League final, equalling AC Milan record, and are behind only Real Madrid, who have made 16 finals.

  • Serge Gnabry is only the second German player to score two goals in a Champions League semi-final after Thomas Mueller, who did it in 2012-13 against Barcelona.

  • Serge Gnabry is one of the four players to have been directly involved in more than 10 Champions League goals this season. Robert Lewandowski (19), Erling Haaland (11) and Kylian Mbappe (10) are the others.

  • The Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain is the fourth instance of a German-French European final and the German side has won on all the three previous occasions.

Lewandowski tops the UCL Top Scorers 2019/20 season with his 15th goal against Lyon. Lewandowski is just 2 goals away from Ronaldo’s Champions League Record of 17 that he achieved in the 2013-14 season.

Finals: PSG vs Bayern Munich

This tournament has been anything but logical with upsets, shocking score lines and the unpredictable becoming the norm.

The world’s two most expensive players, Neymar and Mbappe going against the goal machine Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Alphonso Davis, Philippe Coutinho and many more. Collection of incredible stats after the German champions’ remarkable season

Bayern Munich have won the Champions League for a sixth time (level with Liverpool) and for the first time since 2012-13. Only Real Madrid (13) and AC Milan (7) have been crowned champions on more occasions.

– Bayern Munich are the first team in Champions League history to win every game en route to winning the competition. They are also the first in Champions League history to win 11 games in a row in the competition.

-Bayern are now only the second team to win the European treble twice (European Cup, domestic league and domestic cup) after Barcelona.

– Bayern Munich won 25 of their 26 matches in 2020 in all competitions (one draw). They ended the season on a German club record 21-game winning streak in all competitions.

– With 43 goals all told, Bayern ended up just two goals short of Barca’s record 45-strike tally of 1999/2000, which came from 16 games compared to Bayern’s 11 this season.

  • Bayern Munich became just the third side in UEFA Champions League history to hit the 500-goal mark in the competition (500 goals in total), after Barcelona (517) and Real Madrid (567).

– Manuel Neuer has now kept a clean sheet in both a World Cup final and Champions League final.

-Kingsley Coman has won his 20th major trophy in his professional career at the age of just 24.

– Hans-Dieter Flick is the fourth German coach to win the title in the UCL era, after Ottmar Hitzfeld (1997, 2001), Jupp Heynckes (1998, 2013) and Jürgen Klopp (2019).

-Only Real Madrid (16) have played in more Champions League finals than Bayern (11), whose sixth European title moves them level with Liverpool as the team with the third-most wins in history – behind only AC Milan (7) and Real (13).

-Robert Lewandowski ends the season as the UCL top scorer with 15 goals. He is the first UCL top scorer not from Real Madrid or Barcelona since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007-2008 for Man United . He is also the first UCL top scorer from a German club)

For the last 13 seasons the Champions League has been won by either:

  • Real Madrid
  • Barcelona
  • The team that has eliminated Barcelona.:rofl:

Robert Lewandowski has been a topscorer in all three competitions (Champions League, Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal) he has played this season while also topping Champions League assists chart.

34 goals in 31 games - Bundesliga

6 goals in 5 games - DFB Pokal

15 goals, 6 assists in 10 games - Champions League

Overall: 55 goals scored, 47 games, goal every 75 minutes.

On top of that he will for sure will UEFA Champions League Player of the Season and he has already won Bundesliga Player of the Season.
