Inter Milan vs Real Madrid

Laliga leaders Real Madrid will be hoping to begin their UEFA Champions League journey for the season on a winning note when they lock horns with Serie A champions Inter Milan at San Siro on Wednesday night in Group D.

Real Madrid are the most successful team in the history of the Champions League. They enjoyed a solid run last season as well, only to exit at the semi-final stages at the hands of eventual champions. There has been a sea of change at the club since then, with Zinedine Zidane replaced by Carlo Ancelotti while the likes of Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos have all moved on.

Inter Milan meanwhile, are also in a transitional phase following their title-winning campaign last time out. With Antonio Conte gone, Simone Inzaghi has taken over the team and has made a decent start, winning two and drawing one of his three games in charge, with the latest one ending in a 2-2 stalemate against Sampdoria.

Real Madrid and Inter Milan squared off against each other in the group stages of the Champions League last term, with Los Blancos winning both ties. Ahead of their latest meeting on Wednesday,

Liverpool vs AC Milan

Liverpool have been drawn in a tricky group in the UEFA Champions League, comprising of Milan, Atletico Madrid and FC Porto. Porto and Atletico Madrid will be taking on each other on the same day, with Liverpool’s campaign kicking off versus the Rossoner, in what is already a must-win game for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been in fine touch early in the 2021/22 season, having won three of their four games so far. The latest of these wins came this past weekend against Leeds United, as they cruised to a 3-0 victory, with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on target.

AC Milan, on the other hand, have looked as good, if not better than Liverpool, having won each of their first three Serie A games so far. The Rossoneribegan their 2021/22 campaign with a 1-0 win over Sampdoria before beating Cagliari 4-1. However, it is the 2-0 win over Lazio that has laid down the market in the league, although UEFA Champions League could well be a different ball game.

Liverpool and AC Milan have played out two famous UEFA Champions League fixtures and those are the only two instances when they have ever clashed, with both sides taking a win apiece. Ahead of the latest meeting between the two sides, The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at the encounter.

The Reds were dealt a significant blow over the weekend as young midfielder Harvey Elliott suffered a serious injury in the 3-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road, leaving him needing surgery on his ankle.

The teenager had taken fans by storm this season, earning three consecutive Premier League starts by Jurgen Klopp – including one against Champions League title holders Chelsea.
Aside from Elliott, Liverpool don’t have many real injury concerns.
