Well, Navas has a point. Goalkeepers are the silent pillars of the team. Trophies are won by not just goal scorers but also by the goals saved.
One would also argue that Yashin trophy is for the best goalkeepers. So, in a way they get recognised.
Having said that, if Ballon d’Or is the coveted recognition then goalkeepers stand a very slim chance to win this award. Ironically, I found that Lev Yashin, a Soviet footballer, is the only goalkeeper to ever win the Ballon d’Or in 1963. Probably for the same reason they must be handing out Yashin Trophy. Hmmm…
