Arsenal vs Aston Villa

Arsenal face Villa in a crucial match at the Emirates Stadium, with Arteta aiming for three points. The scheduling of the game may not suit the Gunners, who have struggled in recent Friday night matches, losing both without scoring a single goal. Furthermore, they have a poor recent record versus Aston Villa.

Aston Villa come into this game on the back of a disappointing last-minute loss to Wolves at the weekend. Dean Smith will have been displeased with his team for surrendering a commanding 2-0 lead to let Wolves into the game and snatch a late winner. That was their fourth defeat of the season, as Villa sit one point behind Arsenal.

A victory on Friday night will see them leapfrog the north Londoners on the table and create a viable base for the next set of fixtures.

Aston Villa have won their last three Premier League meetings with Arsenal, as many as they had in their previous 36 against them in the competition (W3 D9 L24). They last won four consecutive league games against the Gunners in September 1962.

Each of the last nine Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Aston Villa at the Emirates has seen at least three goals scored. The only specific fixture to see a longer such run in the competition is Manchester City at home to Newcastle - 11 times between 2007 and 2020.
