What a game! Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool - strike late to maintain unbeaten start. Disappointed with the lost chances - didn’t play well although they had more possession.

Joel Matip has signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until summer 2024.

The Cameroon international joined Liverpool on a free transfer from FC Schalke 04 in the summer of 2016 after graduating through the German club’s youth ranks and making more than 250 senior appearances for them. The 28-year-old has since gone on to represent the Reds 107 times scoring on five occasions.

Matip was named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Month for September.

Matip already has two goals to his name so far this season, his best tally during a campaign for Liverpool.

Genk 1-4 Liverpool: Champions League Group E

However the win was still not good enough to top the Group E table. Liverpool is trailing by 1 point behind Napoli in the Group but safe enough to move to Round 16.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a brace, the second an exquisite goal, as Liverpool end their run of away defeats in the CL group stages. Sadio Mane dinked in the third from Salah’s through ball while Salah rolled home the fourth late on.

Salah and Mane do not get along - Myth finally busted in yesterday’s game.

Salah does pass to Mane, and vice versa for that matter.

The duo’s relationship has often been put under the microscope. Earlier this season at Burnley when Mane reacted angrily to Salah’s failure to set him up for a chance in front of goal, it led to many claiming the duo don’t get on.

It’s simply not true and the pair showed their excellent tuning at Genk.

Both were yet to score when Salah put Mane through on goal to score Liverpool’s third in the 77th minute. Mane would return the favour 10 minutes later as Salah also got himself on the scoresheet.

Premier League : Liverpool 2-1 Spurs

In the Premier League’s game of the week, Liverpool hosted talented but struggling Tottenham at Anfield and won the match 2-1. A big win for Liverpool who came from behind to score twice in the second half against Tottenham.

Kane’s early goal (within just 47 seconds ) gave Spurs the lead but Jordan Henderson scored an equaliser in 52nd minute. Salah secures the win with a penalty in 75th minute.

Liverpool stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League to 6 points over Man City. Liverpool make it 9 wins from 10 with unbeaten league run at home stretches to 45 matches.

Liverpool reached the last eight of the competition after a penalty shootout with Arsenal. The quarter-finals are scheduled for the week commencing 16 December - – the same week the European champions will be in Qatar to play in Fifa’s Club World Cup tournament.
Klopp has threatened to withdraw Liverpool from the Carabao Cup should the the EFL and PL fail to reschedule.
