Mumbai City FC beat FC Goa 1-0 courtesy a last gasp Adam le Fondre penalty

Mumbai City FC have opened their account in the ISL season 7 following a hard-fought 1-0 win over a 10-man FC Goa. The goal came in the added time of the 2nd half after the Islanders were awarded a penalty due to a Lenny Rodrigues’ handball. Adam Le Fondre stepped up, made no mistake and converted to get his side a crucial win. FC Goa custodian Mohammad Nawaz dived in the right direction but there was too much power on Le Fondre’s shot as the ball found the back of the net.

With this win, Mumbai have managed to beat Goa 4 times. Goa have scored 33 goals in games against Mumbai, while the Islanders have netted 15 times in those encounters.

Mumbai City FC bounced back from their shock defeat to NorthEast United last week by getting the better of Sergio Lobera’s former side FC Goa. The Islanders had to wait until injury time to find the breakthrough goal. The Gaurs had to play majority of the match with 10 men after Redeem Tlang’s sending off. They paid the price by conceding a penalty, which Adam Le Fondre duly converted to seal Mumbai’s first win of the season.

The same man had a chance to bring the away team level but he missed a penalty. Armed with a number of experienced Hero ISL campaigners, SC East Bengal have built a formidable squad for their debut campaign in Indian football’s biggest stage – rich in both foreign and local talents. Led by former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, SC East Bengal have signed some experienced foreigners ahead of the season like Anthony Pilkington, Daniel Fox and Jacques Maghoma, and no doubt they add plenty of strength and depth to the squad.

Bengaluru FC 0-0 Hyderabad FC

The match ends goalless at the Fatorda Stadium between Bengaluru FC and Hyderabad FC. Hyderabad were clearly the better team with Bengaluru largely on defence and just one shot on goal, that too off target.

Consecutive clean sheets for Hyderabad in what is the first 0-0 draw of the 2020-21 ISL Campaign.
