RCB vs CSK (Match Summary)

1st innings -

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal the 21 year old prodigy had an absolutely brilliant opening partnership of 111 runs. At this point I’m sure we all thought that RCB were going to make atleast 180 runs. But, their skipper Virat Kohli got out when he was just 13 runs short of completing 10,000 runs in his T20 career a feat achieved by only 5 other players in cricket history. After this, for a while, the partnership of AB de Villiers and Padikkal looked promising, but this too ended soon.
After this everything just went downhill for RCB. The CSK bowlers, on the other hand, did extremely well. In the last 5 overs or so, they gave an average of only 5 runs per over and limited their score to below 160 runs.

2nd innings-

CSK started off well scoring 59 runs in the power play which is the most runs scored in the power play this season. After this, a few batsmen got out, but everyone scored consistently. Everyone in CSK scored an average of 30 runs. In the last few overs, CSK lost a few wickets, but scored many runs too. The RCB bowlers failed to do what CSK did with the ball in the death overs. RCB gave 94 runs in just boundaries. Because of this performance, RCB faced their 7th continuous loss in UAE.

In my opinion, if RCB’s middle order had batted just a bit more confidently they would have a defendable score which might have led to their victory.

SRH vs PBKS (Match Review)

1st Innings -

Without a doubt, one of the best opening partnership in this IPL, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started off slow but steady. However, in the 5th over things started to go sideways for Punjab. West Indies skipper Jason Holder got both of Punjab’s star players, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal out in the same over. Because of this, the run rate automatically decreased drastically. After this, things just didn’t look very bright for Punjab. With all bowlers, especially Rashid Khan giving only 5 runs or less per over and the batsman constantly getting out, they scored an extremely low total of 127 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. At this point, everyone thought Punjab was going to lose.

2nd Innings -

In the first over itself, Shami worked his magic and got ex-captain David Warner for just 2 runs in 3 balls and in his next over he got the wicket of SRH Captain and in-form Kane Williamson. Because of batsmen getting out constantly SRH could make only 21 runs in the power play.
This is the lowest score in power play by SRH in IPL history, lowest score in power play in Sharjah and lowest score in power play this IPL :sweat_smile:.
For a while, the partnership between Saha and Manish Pandey looked promising. But soon, Ravi Bishnoi knocked the stumps behind Manish Pandey with a brilliant googly going between his bat and his pad in just his 1st over. After a while, in the 13th over, Bishnoi, once again displays a brilliant show. He got the well set Kedar Jadhav and Abdul Samad out in the same over. With these 2 wickets and low economy rate of all the bowlers, the required run rate went over 10 runs per over. Right now it was very hard to make a comeback for SRH.
But, when Holder came to bat he hit 3 consecutive maximums. Soon after, due to miscommunication Saha got run out. Nevertheless, Holder kept hitting boundary after boundary. At this point it could have been anyone’s game. In the 18th and 19th over Shami & Arshdeep limited SRH’s score by slow balls so that in the last over 17 runs were required to win. All the pressure was on Nathan Ellis the Australian debutant for PBKS. Later in this over, 7 runs were required in just 1 ball so it would be a super over if Holder hit a 6. But, Jason Holder failed to hit the slow low full toss over the boundary line and thus SRH lost the match by just 5 runs.

Despite Jason Holder’s amazing performance (3/19 in 4 overs & 47* of 29 balls) SRH lost this game and failed to qualify for the playoffs this IPL season. On the other hand, PBKS displayed an extraordinary game defending 125 runs which is the least total successfully defended in all matches of IPL played in Sharjah.

Pitch Report

At the site, a relatively high-scoring game is expected, with dew likely to play a role. Early on, the pacers should receive assistance off the surface, keeping the batters on their toes. Spinners will need to take advantage of the longer side of the ground because there isn’t much turn on offer. After winning the toss, both teams will try to chase, with 150-160 being the norm at the site.
