Neymar is allegedly facing accusations in relation to his 2013 move from Santos to Barcelona. The player was sold for less than his current market value, according to DIS, the investment firm that held 40% of the rights to the PSG star. DIS claims they did not receive a fair share of the fee.
When Neymar was 17 years old, the investment group spent €2m to purchase a 40% stake in his rights. Neymar cost Barcelona €57.1 million when he was acquired from Santos; €40 million went to his parents, while €17.1 million, or 40% of it, went to DIS.
However, the investment firm claimed that they should have been paid more because Neymar was not sold to the “highest bidder.” In a press conference, their attorney Paulo Nasser stated (per the BBC):
“Neymar’s rights have not been sold to the highest bidder. There were clubs that offered up to 60m euros.”
The club presidents at the time, Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, are also being sought after by DIS in addition to the five-year prison sentence and a “149 million euro fine.”
According to the article, the Spanish prosecutors want to condemn Neymar to two years in prison and punish him 10 million euros.
