OFFICIAL: Newcastle United appoint Eddie Howe as head coach
Newcastle’s new Saudi-led regime have finally appointed their first manager, with Eddie Howe having signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to take over at St James’ Park.
The 43-year-old had been out of a job since leaving Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League two seasons ago, but after talks progressed last week and he watched their draw at Brighton from the stands, Howe was officially confirmed in the post on Monday.
‘It is a great honour to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family,’ Howe said.
'This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players.

Rashford ‘withdraws from England squad for WCQ’ to work on fitness
Marcus Rashford ‘has pulled out’ of Gareth Southgate’s upcoming England squad for World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino.
The Manchester United striker will instead remain with his club and work on regaining his sharpness, according to the Telegraph.
Rashford is still working his way back to match fitness following his long lay-off for surgery at the start of the campaign.
He was also taken ill after United’s 2-2 draw against Atalanta in Bergamo and consequently missed two days of training last week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to strip Harry Maguire of the Manchester United captaincy because he isn’t ‘a good fit’ and the decision to promote him ‘didn’t make any sense,’ claims former United title winner Paul Parker.
Maguire was elevated to the role of captain following the departure of Ashley Young to Inter Milan back in January 2020.
The £80million defender - a world record fee for his position - is an established international with England but for Parker, he doesn’t suit the profile required to captain a club as big as Manchester United.
