Bale breaks his 578-day Real Madrid goalscoring drought.
Gareth Bale gave Real Madrid an early lead in their LaLiga Santander fixture against Levante on Sunday evening with a left-footed strike after five minutes.
Angel Correa continued his excellent start to the LaLiga Santander season as he fired home the winner to hand Atletico Madrid a 1-0 victory over Elche on Sunday.
The Argentine striker lit up a closely-fought contest at the Wanda Metropolitano with his first-half strike, as he followed on from his brace at Celta Vigo on the opening day of the LaLiga Santander season.
A first half of few chances came to life after 37 minutes, as Kiko Casilla misjudged a lofted ball from Rodrigo de Paul, with Correa on hand to curl the ball into the top corner.
Los Rojiblancos looked to build on their momentum after the break, and when Jose Maria Gimenez met Koke’s corner in the 47th minute, Casilla acquitted himself smartly to turn the ball away.
Elche struggled to create real chances of note for the remainder of the half, and Atletico Madrid had their Argentine striker to thank again as they made it two wins out of two at the start of their 2021/22 LaLiga Santander campaign.

Dani Carvajal’s second half strike was enough to lift Real Madrid to a 1-0 victory at Betis on Saturday night at the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Seville.
It was a typically hard-fought battle between the two sides in Andalusia, with Carvajal’s classy finish proving to be the difference to send Real into the international break on a high note.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti made the decision to go with Dani Carvajal and Miguel Gutierrez as full-backs, while Vinicius got the nod ahead of Eden Hazard in attack.
The young Brazilian nearly repaid Ancelotti’s faith in him right away by creating the game’s first chance with a move and a cut-back pass for Karim Benzema, who fired wide.
Betis were creating some headaches, too, and habitual giant-killer Nabil Fekir forced Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into a tough stretch save.
A pair of offside calls negated a herculean save from Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva and a goal for Benzema, but it was reflective of Real’s superiority to start the second stanza.
Moments after Juanmi spoiled a chance for Betis, the opener would arrive shortly after the hour mark when Vinicius did well to keep a ball in play, allowing Benzema to swing a ball across and Carvajal latching onto it first-time with a volley that beat Rui Silva to make it 0-1.
Memphis Depay is proving to be just the tonic for Barcelona fans in the opening weeks of the season.
One year, six months, and 11 days later, Real Madrid are returning to play a game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. September 12, 2021, sees them make their comeback at home where they will play for the first time since March 1, 2020, when they won against Barcelona in the Clasico.
Antoine Griezmann made his second debut for Atletico Madrid on Sunday away at Espanyol, but he didn’t have the best of games.
Atletico Madrid earned a 2-1 victory over Espanyol on Sunday afternoon, coming from a goal down to clinch the three points with a 99th minute Thomas Lemar goal. After Raul de Tomas put the Catalan side ahead in the first half, Yannick Carrasco and Lemar’s late strikes gave the defending champions their third win of the campaign.
Thomas Lemar’s winning goal against Espanyol was scored 8 minutes and 56 seconds into the 10 minutes of injury time at the end of the game.
