Ronald Koeman: “It is true that from tomorrow, he will rest for 2 weeks. I’ve spoken with Luis Enrique and it is their decision to call him for the national team games in September - but we will give some rest to Pedri because he needs it"
Athletic Club host Barcelona at San Mames on Saturday night in a match that for so many years has been conditioned by the presence of Lionel Messi, with the Argentine losing just four of his 41 matches against the Basques and scoring a total of 29 goals in that time.
Nigeria prospect Arnaut Danjuma has been included directly in the Villarreal squad to face Espanyol in Saturday’s Spanish topflight outing, two days after joining from Bournemouth.
Ronald Koeman has opted to start Gerard Pique and stick with an unchanged starting line-up from the one which beat Real Sociedad as his team face Athletic Club.
The big news from Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid squad to face Levante is the return of Dani Carvajal, alongside Jesus Vallejo’s first call-up this season.
Nigeria prospect Arnaut Danjuma has been included directly in the Villarreal squad to face Espanyol in Saturday’s Spanish topflight outing, two days after joining from Bournemouth.
Much was made of Gerard Pique’s condition this week and, despite Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman playing down claims he was injured in his pre-match press conference, the defender had to leave the field at San Mames after half an hour.
Memphis Depay scored a second half goal to help Barcelona rally to earn a 1-1 draw with Athletic Club on Saturday night at the Estadio San Mames in Bilbao.
For stretches of the encounter Barcelona looked out of sorts, but they regrouped nicely in the second half to pull level through Depay after Inigo Martinez had given the Basque hosts a lead early in the second half.
Coach Ronald Koeman used the same starting XI that he fielded in last week’s opener against Real Sociedad, with Depay, Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite charged with leading the attack.

The back-and-forth tempo of the first half continued into the second half and Berenguer had it all there to break the deadlock after Inaki Williams had gotten the best of Eric Garcia, but Araujo managed to clear the ball off the line.
Athletic kept the pressure on and it paid off on a corner kick when Inigo Martinez turned in a header to hand the home side a 1-0 lead.
Barcelona looked bereft of ideas in the attacking third, so Koeman went to his bench in hopes of finding some sort of spark and summoned Sergi Roberto and 18-year-old Austrian starlet Yusuf Demir for Braithwaite and Pedri, respectively.
