The 2020-21 season of Premier League got underway just 48 days after the last campaign ended. Matchday 1 turned out to be entertaining as we saw newly promoted clubs, new players dawing new jersey’s create some thrilling moments in England’s top tier competition.
Liverpool vs Leeds United
The newly-promoted club, Leeds United began their top-flight campaign in 16 years against the reigning champions Liverpool. It was an unexpected thriller as Marcelo Bielsa’s boys equalised three times before Mohamed Salah’s hat-trick-sealing 87th-minute penalty which averted in a 4-3 result. Liverpool clinched their first 3 points and that is all what matters. Salah also became the first Liverpool player to score a hat-trick on the opening day of the Premier League and to score in every opening match from the past 4 seasons. But Leeds United have definitely created an early impact showing the tpclubs that they are just not here to stay.
West Ham vs Newcastle United
While at one corner Mike Ashley is going against Premier League for their 300 million pound takeover collapse against the Saudi Owners, the Magpies earned their first 3 points of the season. The signings of Callum Wilson, Jeff Hendrick, Jamal Lewis and Ryan Fraser seem shrewd bits of business as the defeated ‘The Hammers’ 2-0
Leicester City vs West Brom
Another newly-promoted club West Brom made a comeback in the English top-flight but only to just take a 3-0 loss against Leicester City. Jamie Vardy grabbed two Leicester goals in the win and looks ready for another Golden boot race.
Tottenham vs Everton
Everton played an impressive attacking game against Tottenham Hotspur. The newly recruited James Rodriguez and Allan created a good first impression and something in me just tells that Everton can finish in the top 6 this season. ‘The Special One’, Jose Mourinho was full of excuses after the 1-0 loss and lashed out at his players for being ‘Lazy’. The Portuguese said he “did not like his team” and they lacked intensity, and also had a dig at the officiating.
