World Boxing Championships: Amit Panghal Wins Historic Silver

Amit Panghal won a historic silver medal at the World Boxing Championships. He achieved the feat in 52kg final against Uzbekistan’s Shakhobidin Zoirov which he lost after a valiant effort. Panghal became the first male Indian boxer to qualify for the final of a World Boxing Championships. He was a quarterfinalist in the World Championships the last time around.

India has finished the tournament with their best ever medal tally with Panghal’s silver and Manish Kaushik’s bronze,

Vijender Singh (2009), Vikas Krishan (2011), Shiva Thapa (2015) and Gaurav Bidhuri (2017) are the only other Indian boxers who have medalled at this event previously all bronze.

Panghals achiements include Asian Games Gold, Asian Championships Gold & Bronze, Commonwealth Silver.
