UEFA Champions League 2020 Open Discussion

It’s going to be a treat for all football fans as UEFA Champions league 2020 resumes after nearly 5 months. Reigning champions Liverpool were knocked out by Atletico Madrid and now Europe is set to crown a new champion. Let’s analyse each fixture and get the thread rolling with our predictions.

  1. Juventus vs Lyon- Lyon travel to Turin with a 1-0 advantage from a first leg but Juventus are the favourites to get through the Top 8, keeping in mind their recent 9th consecutive Serie A title and some very experienced players, Sarri and his men should look to seal it with a win at the Allianz stadium. The winner of this fixture will square off against the winner of Real Madrid vs Man City in the Knockout playoffs.
Prediction- Juventus will progress to the Quarter Finals

  2. Manchester City vs Real Madrid- After a late drama at the Santiago, Pep Guardiola and his squad will host Real Madrid. Not only do they hold an actual advantage leading 2-1 this means any draw or a 1-0 loss will still take city through to the top 8.

Keeping in mind their current form they have six wins with five clean sheets and an average of four goals scored per game.Recent history would back them as well. They have progressed in all seven Champions League matches where they have won the first leg away from home, while Real Madrid have a poorer record of coming back after losing the first leg while Zinedine Zidane has overseen just two wins from six games with English teams in the competition. Real Madrid will also be lacking their captain Sergio Ramos in the centre and Pep Guardiola will have more knowledge of how to take advantage of this and motivate his players to get through the hurdle. This is going to be a cracker of a contest.
Prediction- Man City will progress to the Quarter Finals.

  1. Chelsea vs Bayern- Bayern, who carry a 3-0 lead into the return tie will have a clear advantage as Chelsea suffer a plethora of injuries. Bayern on paper look like the new champions of this season, but this fixture should be a cakewalk for them.
    Prediction- Bayern Progress

  2. Barcelona vs Napoli- Napoli drew 1-1 against Barcelona in the home leg, but the recent La Liga title slipping off and Messi angry with players performance and management gives a mental advantage to the Italian side. Barca’s record at Camp Nou has been clinical and Champions league is their last chance to end the season without much disappointment and go trophyless. Barcelona will have an added advantage as Lorenzo Insigne suffered an injury in the 3-1 win over Lazio in the final Serie A game, casting doubt on his participation.
    Prediction- Barcelona Progress to QF.

These are my views on the 2nd leg fixtures, let’s keep posting all the necessary updates until matchday and then we can continue posting our analysis for the Quarterfinals which begins on 13th August.

Pep Guardiola after defeating Real Madrid said “We are here to try and win the Champions League. It is one step, if we think that is enough we will show how small we are.”

Champions Mentality  City are now the favorites to win the Champions league…can Guardiola repeate what he did as Barcelona manager in the past?

PEP :speech_balloon: To win the CL, you have to win against teams like Madrid, Barca, etc.

[On Lyon] I spoke with the scouting department. And they said: be alert!

We have seven, eight days to prepare. Now, enjoy it today and tomorrow. Day after, start to think about it.

Maybe…They do have one of the best manager leading with the Champions attitude but watch out for Bayern Munich! :star_struck:
