Prajnesh Gunneswaran knocked world number 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili out of the Indian Wells ATP Masters event

Indian Tennis clearly making huge strides. What do you reckon we need as a nation to thrive at the world stage as far as Tennis is concerned?

Infrastructure seems to be improving by the day. Where else could we improve and give our athletes a better chance?

Unfortunately he’s lost to Ivo Karlovic in straight sets and is Knocked out of the competition. He displayed a great game considering the fact that it was his first appearance in an ATP tournament.

Coming to how Tennis can be improved in our country, we just don’t need infrastructure. Tennis is a game of grit and endurance. We need to focus on the grassroot level. Fitness must be the primary focus. We have a large base for Tennis fans and leagues are getting more people connected. India now needs to produce a world class Singles player and that can only happen when proper training is given and more sponsors decide to invest. Tennis is a comparatively expensive sport.
