Koeman Is The New Barca Boss! Can Koeman restore Barca's prestige?

Ronald Koeman is Barcelona’s new head coach. He replaces Quique Setien. Setien made way after seven months charge which resulted in no LaLiga title and a Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich. Koeman takes charge at Camp Nou on a two-year contract.

With Koeman in charge, the Netherlands qualified for Euro 2020, their first major tournament since the 2014 World Cup.

Fingers crossed as Kowman takes on a difficult assignment with Barca’s recent performance not too encouraging, Conflicts raging between Players/Coaching Staff, An unhappy Messi.

Show Commitment or Leave: Ronald Koeman Vows to ‘Clean Up’ Barcelona Image

Ronald Koeman warned that any players who lack commitment or professionalism will be shown the door as he vowed to lead the team back to glory after last week’s 8-2 humiliation in the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

“What we need to do is give a different image to what we gave against Bayern, that’s not the Barca we or the fans want to see,” Koeman said at his presentation on Wednesday after signing a two-year deal with Barca.

“You have to be very happy wear the Barca shirt. You have to show that with commitment, professionalism, with everything you have inside. If we do that, the image will be totally different to what it was last week.”

Koeman left his role as Netherlands coach to take charge of Barca, who he helped win a first European Cup in 1992 during a golden six-year spell in Johan Cruyff’s so-called ‘Dream Team’.

The Dutchman said that Barca was his home, although he admitted it was not an easy time to return to the club, who are reeling from their first trophy-less campaign in 12 years.

“We’re going to work very hard to build a strong team but we’ll have to make changes because the image of the other day is not what we want. We’ll have to work hard to recover our prestige,” he said.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and Barca fans sure hope Koeman can restore Barca’s prestige and bring back the lustre to the Barca dressing room after a disappointing season.

Koeman, who has been in charge of the Netherlands since 2018, was part of the hugely successful side under Johan Cruyff that came to be known as the ‘Dream Team’, scoring the winner against Sampdoria as Barca became champions of Europe for the first time in 1992.

Time will tell if he can recreate the “Dream Team” again!

A nice paycheck, he’s just a short term appointment to clean out a few big names, steady the ship and appease fans until the next presidential elections where whomever does get elected will bring in Xavi.

The club will need a total overhaul. Ronald Koeman and Ernesto Valvarde have the same playing style. So this decision doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. If you tactical see the playing style of all the top clubs in Europe, Barcelona will need a more attacking gameplay rather than Cruyff football.
Koeman’s record in club football isn’t exactly glittering and he was last seen being decidedly unimpressive as Everton boss back in 2017. He’s done well managing the Netherlands, guiding them to some impressive wins and a Nations League final, but international football is a different style of management to the club game. Let’s see what he’s got to change the fortunes of the club.

According to me former spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez should be assigned to the barca squad.

Xavi has played over 700 matches for Barcelona and has scored 85 goals.

During this time he has won eight La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League titles. He came third in the 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year, followed by third place for its successor award, the FIFA Ballon d’Or, in 2010 and 2011.
